Flannel was the usual centerpiece of a grunge outfit. Girls wore flannel skirts and boys wore flannel shirts. It was that simple. Then there were flannel caps, flannel pajamas, even flannel backpack. The coolest look, though, for both sexes, was a flannel shirt underneath overalls.

And a teddy bear to match!

Although even cooler, is flannel overalls!

Sadly, though, grunge faded out and took flannel with it. Then it came back in 2009. But I don’t think it’s the same.

Something about this flannel is totally subpar. The plaid is too chunky, and the colors too bright. It saddens me so. Or maybe I’m just not familiar enough with flannel. Weigh in in my latest poll.

Hey, I’m back. I unexpectedly got swamped with schoolwork and life in general, but now that summer’s been here a while, I’m ready to get back to blogging. I’m glad to be back, and you should look at my second blog, A Day in the Life of a Junior High Outcast, a blog where I feel funnier, and I plan on channeling that energy in this blog. Boy Crazed: 90s Edition

I was quite the ’90s fan, even when I was young. I was also always boy-crazed. I don’t mean over the boys in my class- they were icky. No, I mean over the boys of the nineties. I always thought they were much cuter than the boys now. And let’s see who the lucky winners were:

Omri Katz, Eerie, Indiana

My sister bought the Eerie, Indiana DVD when I was eight, and I loved it. It was the first crush I remember having. It wasn’t very serious. I just wrote his name in bubble font on the front of my math book, and that was it.

R.G. Quimby, watch out. Length of crush: 2006-2007 Age: 11-12

This was yet another case of my sister bought the DVD for me, hoping to kindle a liking of it from me, which worked. This was a crush, for real, where I got pictures of Ross Hull of the internet, printed them, and taped them over my bed. This usually made my sister go, Awwwww, a lot.

Mike Maronna and Danny Tamberelli

Oh, boy! Length of crush(s): 2005-2008 Ages: 9-12

Guess how I learned about this one. Seriously, just guess. My first episode was Crisis in the Love Zone. I fell in love with Danny quickly, before I saw Mike. I was confused but eventually I got over both crushes, and just watched Pete and Pete with only the emotion of silliness and happiness.

I’m sure many of you have my story on 30 going on 13. Sorry it’s sloppy, but I have no idea of another way to put it. Truth-telling time. I did write Tademy in 4th grade, but I edited it in 5th grade. Another truth? I don’t go to Catholic school, and I’m not from Australia. At least, not completely. You see, my parents got divorced when I was four, my sister was eight, and my little brother was one. Yeah, my brother Marc doesn’t remember having his parents together. My dad moved to Australia, so he could live with his friend Bob. Yes, that’s my dad’s friend’s name- Bob. So we live with my dad in August, in Australia, and we live here in America during the school year, and in June and July. I live in Chandler, AZ, and go to Hendrix Junior High, but I attended Catholic junior high for a while, and I used to go to Alma Elementary, which was ok. Oh yeah, did I mention we still have junior high school in Chandler that covers grades 7-9? Reminds you of the good old days, huh? The plan is for me to go to Red Mountain High in two years, and attended all AP courses. Yes, I’m a super genius. Lucky me, my boyfriend and two of my close friends, along with five guy friends are on the same course, at the same school, so I’ll probably get to make new friends, and still hang out with Joel, Arthur, Taffeta, Julia, Jimmy, and Marty. In Australia, I have three girlfriends, too, and a guy friend named Marcus. My girlfriends’ names are Maggie, who looks like Brandy, Alexi, who looks like Georgia Groome, a British actress she likes, and Sadie, who looks like Alexa Vega. Maggie lived in South Africa until she was three, and Alexi lived in Russia until she was six. Marcus looks like Leo DiCaprio, which is no big deal to me, especially since it’s against girl code to like him, since Alexi is his girlfriend. So that’s my life story.

Brit’s a dye maniac. … Baby One More Time was originally written for TLC. This is hard to believe. The song was called Hit Me Baby One More Time, but Jive decided it was too domestic violence-esque. As Troy Steele would say, What.

From what my eighteen year old sister can remember, the Sometimes music video was about Britney stalking a boy and his dog. She was so wrong. I watched it yesterday and it reminded me of a situation I got in when I was in fourth grade. I was slow back then, (OK, for some reason, in fourth grade I was socially retarded. I was a genius in booksmarts, but I pulled stupid stunts that embarrassed me, and was a recluse.) so I wrote a secret admirer letter to the most popular girl in class. Yes, I said girl. It wasn’t a love letter. It was really I secretly admire you. I remember it word for word.

Lisa sat next to me so she knew what my handwriting looked like. So, she yelled, “Kylie is a lesbian!” Ever since then, I’ve sort of had that whole “Bad Reputation” attitude to my classmates. I guess I was upset at first because I had a crush on a guy named Joel, who said he didn’t associated with gays. Sometimes makes me think of when he said that. Yeah, I “paired off” (as in, did as much as two eighth grade kids could to act like a couple) with a guy named Cameron. Joel’s his twin brother. This reminds me of

the Wakefields. You know, if Elizabeth was a badass, and Jessica was trying too hard to be normal. But that’s getting pretty far off-topic. Anyhoo, Sometimes actually has something to do with my life. Go figure!
